On The IT Business Podcast, FifthWall Solutions CEO Cole Knuth sat down with Marvin Bee to talk about why MSPs can’t afford to ignore this shift.

“If MSPs aren’t having these conversations as technical advisors, someone else is,” Knuth explained. And that’s the risk—because whoever owns the conversation, owns the client relationship.

Cyber Insurance: More Than Just Data Exposure

Many business owners misunderstand cyber insurance. They think it’s just about data breaches. But cyber threats go far beyond that.

“What if someone locked down your client’s line of business applications?” Cole pointed out. Ransomware attacks can cripple operations, disrupt revenue, and leave companies scrambling to recover. Cyber insurance is about business continuity, financial protection, and resilience.

Yet, most clients don’t even know what cyber insurance really covers. That’s why MSPs need to ask the question: ‘Do you have cyber insurance?’ It opens the door to an important discussion—and positions the MSP as the trusted advisor.

The MSP’s Role: Be the Trusted Advisor, Not a Bystander

IT leaders are already managing security risks, implementing protections, and advising on best practices. But if they don’t also talk about how cyber insurance fits into the bigger picture, clients will look elsewhere for guidance.

Here’s what MSPs need to do:

Start the conversation. Clients don’t know what they don’t know. Ask them if they have cyber insurance.

Educate on real risks. It’s not just about data—it’s about business interruption, financial fallout, and liability.

Stay in control of the conversation. If MSPs don’t lead, carriers and other vendors will take their seat at the table.
